Mother’s Day holds a lot.
For some of us, it’s a day of celebration — flowers, phone calls, gratitude for the women who shaped us. For others, it’s something heavier. Grief for the mother we lost. Longing for the one we wish we’d had. The ache of children we hoped for and didn’t get to hold. The complicated, unresolved love that never quite found its words.
Maybe it’s all of those things at once.
Whatever you’re carrying today, I want you to know: you’re allowed to feel all of it. The joy and the grief don’t have to cancel each other out. They can exist together, and often they do.
A place to breathe through it
I’ve been using the Othership app for breathwork, and this time of year I always come back to one session in particular: it’s called Mothership.
I’m not affiliated with Othership and this isn’t sponsored — I’m just a user who has found real value in what they’ve built. The Mothership session is one of those experiences that creates space for whatever needs to move through you. Whether that’s release, grief, gratitude, or simply the need to feel held for a few minutes — breathwork has a way of getting underneath the stories we tell ourselves and into the body where so much of this actually lives.
If you’ve never tried breathwork, Mother’s Day might be a surprisingly powerful day to start.
For the ones who don’t have an easy day today
If you’re someone who finds Mother’s Day difficult — you are not alone, and you are not broken. Loss, longing, and complicated relationships with mothers or motherhood are part of so many of our stories. They deserve space too.
This is a day to be gentle with yourself. To breathe. To let your body hold what your mind is still trying to process.
You are seen. You are held.
Breathe. Move. Feel everything.
